IGCEMA Opens Nominations for the 2010 Edwin Budding Award

The International Golf Course Equipment Managers Association (IGCEMA) is announcing it will now be accepting nominations for the fourth annual Edwin Budding Award.

Edwin Budding was a pioneer who invented the reel mower in 1830, as well as the adjustable spanner/crescent wrench. Edwin was an engineer who thought “outside the box” and created something for our industry which to this day remains a constant. Where would golf be today without the reel mower? Would we see low heights of cut? Can you imagine rotary greens mowers? While many times the invention of new golf clubs, grasses and irrigation systems seem to get a lot of attention, one thing holds true: if we didn’t have the reel mower golf would not be where it is today.

Presidents Report- Glenmac Meeting

Our recent meeting was held at Glenmac Sales & Service. Kane Wauchope introduced
the day’s proceedings. Kane suggested that we start off with a general discussion and
feedback so the turf technicians had a great chance to relay thoughts on the industry and
where the equipment technology was heading.
After an informative discussion within the group and the Glenmac staff we headed on down
to the workshop.
We broke into groups to do some serious hands on and set up procedures. We then had a
chance to look at the common rail tractor series. The groups had the opportunity to
practise the proper set up procedures on the new quick cutting units.
The new innovative changes John Deere has to offer to our industry gives our turf
technicians a great opportunity on our training days to advance within the industry.
Many thanks to all the staff at Glenmac Sales & Service:
Tony Toth
Kane Wauchope
Dieter Kaiser
Jim Frances
Steve – Spare Parts
